September 24, 1942 - THE regular, thrice-weekly Glenn Miller radio broadcasts for Chesterfield Cigarettes reached the end of the line today, when Miller packed up his bags to go fight for his country in World War 2. The jazz swing-era trombone musician, arranger, composer, & bandleader disappeared two years later, while flying in bad weather to a U.S. troops show in France.
