* We go way back to two John Lennon events; his marriage to Yoko Ono, shown here by Australian TV pop show host, Dick Williams, and the release of Lennon's book, In His Own Write.
* Former Creedence Clearwater Revival singer, John Fogerty shows us his solo style in 1985, on this day.

January 5, 1973 - BRUCE Springsteen released his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J, today, the album recorded in just one week, and only selling about 25,000 copies in the first year of its release. Both Blinded By The Light and Spirit In The Night were released as singles but neither made a dent in the charts. Manfred Mann's Earth Band later released a version of Blinded By The Light on their album, The Roaring Silence, which reached #1 on many world charts in 1977. Meanwhile, here is 'the boss' with the beautiful Rosalita.

1957 - PAT Boone began filming the movie Bernadine today, the title tune of which was a major hit for the middle-of-the-road aforementioned Mr. Boone. So was the song that follows, whistling in the middle eight and all. Jack 'Mr Bongo' Costanzo and his orchestra were featured using his real name in the movie. By the way, Jack's solo is Fantastic!!

1959 - BUDDY Holly's final record release prior to his plane crash death was It Doesn't Matter Anymore backed with Raining in My Heart on the other side, and released by Coral Records. if you want more Buddy Holly go to our archive search engine. Precisely a month after these songs were released, Holly died, along with The Big Bopper and Richie Valens...have you seen this crash footage before...following Weezer. Meanwhile, this is when we play Weezer with their Buddy Holly tribute song, and following that the footage of the crash site, and some reports of the accident.

1965 - THE SUPREMES recorded Stop! In the Name of Love, today, the tune eventually becoming one of their biggest hit records. Written and produced by Motown's main production team Holland, Dozier & Holland, the song reached #1 around the world - firstly in the USA, where it stayed on top for two weeks.

1975 - THE WIZ musical opened today on Broadway, and this is a bootleg one-cam footage of one of the performances. You'll need to concentrate if you can be bothered, as the quality is very poor.

1978 - THE SEX Pistols U.S. concert debut took place, but it wasn't long before they performed their final show. The group's entire American tour was a farce from start to finish. Speaking of which here is their final San Francisco show, singing God Save The Queen.

1980 - KC & THE Sunshine Band had their 5th worldwide hit with the first #1 of the 80s, Please Don't Go, which hit top of the charts today. It was a change from the barrage of great stand-up-and-dance hits that preceded this one.

1983 - EVERYTHING But The Girl made their live debut at the ICA in London, tonight. The group took their name from an old second-hand furniture store in Hull, UK. This is their cover version hit of the old Rod Stewart hit, I Don't Wanna Talk About It.

1984 - THE POLICE, announced a farewell concert for March 2 in Australia, the group having been together for nine years. Some say that was around 8 years too long. This is the day in 1998 when Sonny Bono was killed in a sling accident. Here is some fitting live footage taken from the very final Sonny and Cher performance, and from Jan. 6, 1998, here is part of an NBC Dateline show with Stone Philips, on the life and tragic death of the entertainer and politician.  During her first appearance on Ellen's show, Cher revealed personal details about her relationship with Sonny, and then I Got You Babe.
