* Psychedelic Furs show us their pretty pink wares in 1980.
* Elvis at #1 with an old German folk song as he records a new hit with an old Italian folk song in 1960.
* Adam and the Ants show a new style of rock'n'roll new music, 31 years ago.
* It's 1963 and the Beach Boys look very...er...dapper performing this hit.
* We go way back to two John Lennon events; his marriage to Yoko Ono, shown here by Australian TV pop show host, Dick Williams, and the release of Lennon's book, In His Own Write.
* Former Creedence Clearwater Revival singer, John Fogerty shows us his solo style in 1985, on this day.
* We go classical once again with a debut of one of Haydn's pieces.

December 29, 30, 1970 - PAUL McCartney sued the other three Beatles to dissolve the partnership and gain control of his interest in the quartet. And so it was the beginning of the end of the Beatles…hang in there and check out this revealing mini-doco on the Beatles' career, and breakup. And for all things Beatles go to our archives and use our search engine for more Beatles.

1944 - THE BROADWAY musical, On the Town, opened in New York City and ran for a total of 462 performances. It features the song, New York, New York…(not that one!) Five years later and Hollywood made a movie of the musical, starring legendary Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly and Jules Munshin performing several songs from the movie version of the musical. Following is The Codarts Symphony Orchestra from Rotterdam in the Netherlands, conducted by Hans Leenders, performing Leonard Bernstein's Time Square, taken from the movie. The orchestra is performing the song during the closing concert of the Dutch National Day of Liberation in 2008.

1962 - BRENDA Lee's home was destroyed by fire, today, which set her life and career back a few paces, but with grit and determination Ms. Lee survived the ordeal. She had her first hit record at age 14, and remained a strong force superstar in the music industry for most of her life. Here's a mini-doco on the woman they once called Little Miss Dynamite.

1963 - THE WEAVERS gave their farewell concert at Orchestra Hall in Chicago tonight, which is just as well because folk music was about to take a new twist via the new kid on the block, Bob Dylan. Here's a bit of old-style homogenized folk music of the time, courtesy of one of the iconic folk bands, the Weavers.

1968 - THE DOORS' Touch Me was released 42 years ago today, raising the bar just that little bit higher with a pure-class performance of a first class song. And I thank Alan Howe for shopwing me the way with the Doors.

1969 - TODAY was declared Temptations Day in Detroit, Michigan, today. For more Temptations information and videos click on to our blog site and use our search engine to guide you to whatever you want regarding Temptations. Meanwhile, how about this classic hit.

1979 - EMERSON, Lake & Palmer announced their break up, thus effectively ending the era of so-called pro rock. Also known as ELP, the band was an English progressive rock supergroup that emerged from bands the Nice, King crimson and Atomic Rooster. They found success in the 1970s and sold over forty million albums, and headlining large stadium concerts. The band consisted of Keith Emerson on keyboards), Greg Lake on bass guitar, vocals, guitar, and Carl Palmer on drums and percussion. They became one of the most commercially successful progressive rock bands, and from the outset focused on combining classical pieces with rock music.

1982 - JAMAICA issued a Bob Marley commemorative stamp, today to remember their famous citizen. Robert Nesta Marley born was born on February 6, 1945 in Nine Miles, St. Ann Jamaica, and during his life transcended the humility of his rural beginnings to become a multi-million-selling artist and entertainer whose pleas for brotherhood, justice and peace achieved international fame. Few have attained the level of fame Marley did in his short time on the world stage, and even more so since his death. Marley's world stage was a true one; as a performer whose sensibilities were thoroughly enmeshed in the developing world, Marley addressed poverty, the loss of cultural identity, and racism. He sang about issues that mattered to people just like him. Yet,  Bob Marley was in ways very different from people like him. His father, a colonial functionary named Captain Norval Marley, was white, and left the young Robert Nesta Marley with a surname and little else before disappearing shortly after the boy's birth. Trench Town, immortalized in the Marley songs Trench Town Rock, was young Bob's first home in Kingston, and began singing professionally after releasing his first ever song at 16, Judge Not. Under the coaching of Joe Higgs, Bob Marley met two other youngsters Bunny Livingstone & Peter Tosh and together the Wailers group was formed in 1963.  By 1966, Bob had met and married Trench Town singer, Rita Anderson.

1983 - DENNIS Wilson of the Beach Boys drowned while swimming near his boat in the harbor at Marina del Ray, California, today. This is Dennis Wilson singing the song, Forever, live at Central Park a decade earlier. Following that we have the report of his death, as reported on the TV show, Good Morning America.

1994 - LISA 'Left-Eye' Lopes pled guilty today, to arson charges for setting fire to and destroyed boyfriend Andre Rison's $1 million Atlanta mansion. Here's a tribute to one of my fave femmes singers, singing Keep Your Head To The Sky from her solo Supernova album, with a compilation of vids from her career, including with TLC.

1999 - GEORGE Harrison and his wife were attacked in their home during a robbery today, and though Harrison was stabbed in the chest four times, he and his wife were able to subdue the assailant until police arrived. George Harrison - a beautiful spirit, whose classic song My Sweet Lord, featuring Eric clapton, can be seen at our blog archive. Meanwhile, this was his final ever public performance - at the studios of VH1, and completely add-libbed.
